Forum achievements?

32 posts in this topic

Stuff like:

Rate Raid: Rate x posts

Worldwide Poster: Post in each of the sub-forums

Risktaker: Rate an admin -

etc.

Even if this doesn't ever get done, post yours, for fun!

I don't know if having set goals would be good, it would really put a steel backbone into our spineless conversations. Some set goals that wouldn't make people post in certain places would be good. Such as 250 POSTS HOORAY! Or getting a high enough rep.

Also if achievements were handed out when the higher-ups see fit, and were unique from each other, it would be a unique and individualized reward system to replace the member titles that I know abuse willy-nilly.

250 posts - please, we both know where this is going.

+50 rep or so - yes, will finally get some intelligence in here :P

Personally I rate posts every chance I get. :)

The only evidence I have against forum achievements is it could go bad. The Escapist Forums have achievements, and its full of threads to spark controversy and get a bunch of replies, as opposed to being actually a good read.

Theoretical examples:

"Post here if you think [popular game] is the best game ever"

"[popular game] sucks!!!"

"Why [religion] is bad"

"Why [political party/figure] is good/bad"

"Favorite movie/vidjeo gamez/food/boss fight/toothepaste"

And consequently many of the posts are "Learn to use the search button n00b lol."

Why was my post down-rated? I was just post a idea for an achievement.

On topic: Here are some cool achievement Ideas I thought of(be kind).

Intelligence: Make a post that is regarded as intelligent.(I don't know how to put it)

+5: Get over 5 rep in a single post.

1000: Get 1000 posts.

1: Spend over 1 day total time on the forums.

Week: Spend over a week total time on the forums.

666: Condemn another member for making his 666th post.

I have friends now!: Get over 15 friends on the forums.

Status hog: Update your status over 100 times.

Release NH2: complain to Hen about NH2 not being released.

InB4thelock: Post in a soon to be locked thread.

We didn't start the flame war!: Flame someone for making a stupid post.

TOP 10lol: make it into the top ten posters.

Diversity: Speak out against a racist action.

Why was my post down-rated? I was just post a idea for an achievement.

My bad, I meant to rate up and my hand slipped.

He'll never know the truth now, right?

Also, work on the achievement names :P

The last few were really unnecessary.

Personally I think this is a stupid idea.

I see the fun of having achievements, but they would only lead to spam.

I think if there were to be implemented, all the achievements should be secret, and for more interesting things than post count and crap <_<

Which is why I didn't include post count achievements in my OP.

I agree, automated achievements like in popular video games will only flood the forum. I think manual achievements would make more sense... created and given by us (mods/admins) on certain posts or activities carried out by the forum members. For instance, for a mind-blowing-awesome reply, we can hand out a certain badge. I think I know who's gonna take care of the graphics if this is executed...

This would be awesome, coupled with an interesting way of displaying them it could give the forum a unique edge.

if the achievements were given by admins that would be a great idea. i bet some people would get way into it though.

Yay.

Some random forum feedback that I don't want to find a better thread for:

You can't see what posts are new and what are old. Either that or I'm missing something big.

Do you mean you can't tell which forums\threads are posted in or what the posts are within those threads?

If it's the first one, it'll probably fix itself sometimes new posts don't show for me.

If it's the last one, that's why posts are timestamped.

It's the latter, and posts should be timestamped either way. Like they are in phpBB.
